BASEBALL PITCH COUNTS

Introduction

July 15, 2016 - HS Federation Calls For Pitch Limits, Enid (OK) News.  The National Federation of High Schools (NFHS) passed a new rule requiring every state high school governing body to enact a pitch count rule for the spring, 2017 baseball season.  This is a major step toward protecting young pitchers' arms.

June 7, 2016 - New London, CT - Connecticut's high school baseball coaches objected to a new pitch count rule that goes into effect next year.  However, we got good evidence of why the rule is needed when some high school coaches over-pitched their pitchers in the State tournament to a degree that would be hard to defend.  See This State Baseball Tourney Proves a Pitch Count Rule is Necessary by Mike DiMauro, New London, Ct's The Day, June 7, 2016.  See also, Rise in Pitching Injuries Has Experts On Alert by Christian Arnold, gametimePA.com, June 21, 2016.
