Brawl it was, but this brawl involved knives and baseball bats. If the measure of a sport is the seriousness of the fans and their willingness to engage in unsportsmanlike conduct of the highest or lowest order, then wheelchair basketball has made it - but what a way to make it.

To be specific, Katie Ladlie, a Troy Buchanan High School senior, is able to compete, but she can’t score points. You can see both sides of this: If Katie can’t score, what’s the point of competition. On the other hand, if Katie does score, her school will rack up a lot of easy points because there’s virtually no competition in high school wheelchair competitions. In fact, the article notes that for the “past three seasons, she has been the only girl in Missouri racing in a wheelchair.”
